Aftercare for Freckle Pigmentation
Proper aftercare is essential to achieve the best possible result for your freckle tattoo.
If you have any questions or concerns during the healing process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Important Healing Information:
- Immediately after treatment: The skin is red and slight swelling may occur. The color may be barely visible and will darken over the next few hours.
- Days 1–4: The color appears darker, swelling and redness have subsided.
- Days 4–7: Itching may occur and small pigmented skin flakes may come off. This is normal and occurs in irregular patches.
- After the skin flakes fall off: The pigment may appear lighter temporarily. The final color will develop over the 4-week healing period.
- After 2 weeks: The outer skin layers have healed and the true color becomes visible.
- After 4 weeks: The inner skin layers are now fully healed as well.
Slight irregularities in color distribution are normal and can be adjusted in a second session (from week 6 onwards).
Normal symptoms in the first 4 days:
- Slight swelling, redness, and tenderness
- Dry, flaky skin
- Itching
- In case of an allergic reaction to cream/soap or a pollen allergy, the area under the eyes may swell after a few days. If severe swelling occurs, please consult a doctor.
What you should do:
- Cleansing: Cleanse your face twice daily with water and/or mild cleanser.
- Cream: Apply a thin layer of the healing ointment from your kit 1-3 times daily using a cotton swab or clean hands. Use a new swab each time to avoid contamination. Less is more – let the skin breathe.
We recommend these products for optimal healing:
- Tattoo Med After Tattoo Cream (face and body care)
- La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ (facial care)
- CeraVe Cleansing Lotion (gentle cleanser for dry skin)
- TattooMed Cleansing Gel (gentle cleanser for oily skin)
- La Roche-Posay Anthelios Shaka Fluid SPF 50 (sun protection)
What you should avoid:
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or scratching the treated areas to prevent uneven healing and infections.
- Avoid makeup on the treated areas for approximately 1 week to prevent infections.
- Avoid thick layers of cream – too much cream causes the skin to swell.
- Do not allow the treated areas to become saturated with water for 1 week. A quick shower is perfectly fine, however.
- Avoid cosmetic treatments for 5 days.
- No hair removal (waxing, electrolysis, laser) in the freckle area for 2 weeks.
- Do not expose the treated areas to direct sunlight, tanning products, saunas, salt water, chlorinated pools, or direct shower spray for 2 weeks. After day 3, you may use non-oily sunscreen (see product recommendations).
- Avoid applying acids, vitamin A and C, or other active cosmetics on or near the treated areas for 2 weeks.
Long-term Care Instructions:
- Use sunscreen daily (SPF 30 or 50) to slow the fading of pigmentation caused by UV radiation.
- Inform your doctor or practitioner about your semi-permanent tattoo if you are planning a chemical peel treatment, laser treatment, or an MRI. The pigments used contain iron oxides, titanium dioxide, and carbon, are EU-certified, and contain no heavy metals.
- Inform the blood donation service, as you may not be allowed to donate blood for 6 months after treatment.
- Annual touch-up treatments are recommended every 12 months to maintain the freshness of the pigmentation. For oily skin, a touch-up may be necessary sooner, as natural sebum causes the pigment to fade more quickly.
Freckles too dark:
In the first few days after treatment, individual freckles may appear darker than desired, especially if the skin is very dry or thin. In this case, there are several options to adjust the pigmentation:
-
- During the scabbing phase: If the freckles appear too dark, you can apply a thick layer of Bepanthen Wound and Healing Ointment several times a day. This helps soften the scab and allows it to fall off sooner.
- After the scabbing phase: If the freckles are still too dark after the scabbing phase, you can use active cosmetics (AHA, BHA acid, vitamin A or C) to gently lighten the pigmentation. This may take several weeks.
- In extreme cases: If significant lightening is required, a pigment remover can be used. Please contact us via WhatsApp or email in this case so we can discuss the best course of action.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns!
Infection prevention: Proper care of your freckles is essential to avoid infections during the healing process. Follow the above instructions carefully to protect your new freckles.
The treatment is performed under sterile conditions, all materials are single-use, and the treatment room is thoroughly cleaned after each session. If an infection occurs, it is usually due to inadequate aftercare. If you notice yellow discharge in the treated area, please contact your doctor immediately to initiate antibiotic treatment.
