Lip pigmentation
Lip blush, also known as aquarelle lips, is a cosmetic tattoo of the lips. This exceptionally natural new lip pigmentation technique was developed to restore color and definition and to correct minor asymmetries of the lips.
You can choose a pigment color that matches your natural lip color, or opt for a slightly bolder shade that gives you a pop of color without having to apply makeup to your lips.
Natural Lip Pigmentation in Berlin-Charlottenburg
Perfectly groomed lips, all day and every day—that is lip blush. Lip pigmentation enhances your natural color and accentuates your natural shape for the perfect pout.
This is modern permanent makeup, a subtle, natural enhancement that highlights your beauty rather than concealing it. The name lip blush or aquarelle lips comes from the fact that the healed result resembles a light lip color, like that of a tinted lip balm, rather than lipstick, although it is a completely normal lip pigmentation.
Information
Duration: 2.5 hours
Downtime: up to 24 hours swelling, up to 3 days darker color
Healing: approximately 3 days darker color, days 4-6 dry lips and minimal scabbing, touch-up after 6 weeks. More information under Aftercare.
Exclusion criteria can be found under Guidelines.
The lip blush technique, like classic lip pigmentation, uses a tattoo machine and a very fine needle to implant pigment into the uppermost layer of skin. The main difference lies in the minimal contour line, so that the transition to the lip surfaces is seamless, creating a particularly natural result. Pearl Tattoo Berlin’s delicate full shading of the lips appears very natural after healing and not bold like lipstick.
Melanin-Rich Lips
As one of the first permanent makeup studios in Germany, Pearl Tattoo Berlin offers lip pigmentation to clients with melanin-rich lips. What was previously dismissed as impossible is now achievable with state-of-the-art techniques and color expertise.
Melanin-rich lips are usually darker or cooler toned at the edges or completely. Due to the cool toning, melanin-rich lips require a different lip pigmentation technique to color-correct and neutralize the darkness of the lips. If your lips have a darker, cool undertone and you are aiming for a rosier tone as lip blush, it usually requires more than one treatment.
During the first treatment, the cool undertone is neutralized with a warm tone. During the second treatment, we can pigment with a pink tone; nude tones are not possible.

Treatment Process
During a lip pigmentation treatment at Pearl Tattoo Berlin, we start with a comprehensive consultation where the entire process is explained to you, from the preliminary drawing to color selection and the healing process. We discuss your ideas and wishes and how best to implement them.
Preliminary Drawing & Color Selection
During the preliminary drawing, I usually ask how you apply makeup to your lips daily. With lip pigmentation, there is only one rule: you should not pigment more than 1-2 mm beyond the actual lip skin. Minor asymmetries can be corrected with lip pigmentation. Only when you are 100% satisfied with the preliminary drawing will pigmentation begin.
Feel free to bring your favorite lipstick or reference images of healed (!) lip pigmentations. Together we will discuss your wishes and find the perfect shade for you.
Pigmentation
To preserve the preliminary drawing, a fine outline is applied, which will no longer be visible after healing. Then the entire lip is shaded, which takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours in total. Numbing of the lip is possible.
After pigmentation, the lips will be swollen and the color will be very intense.
Healing
Now it is up to you: Please avoid excessive water contact and sun exposure for two weeks after pigmentation. Also avoid sweating.
After approximately 3-4 days, the lip will peel. More information on aftercare can be found here:
Healed Results
Lip pigmentation may require multiple treatments to achieve the desired result. After each treatment, the skin needs 6 weeks to heal completely. Generally, it can be said that after the healing process, the color fades by approximately 30% and sharp edges appear less defined. Learn more about the healing process under Aftercare.
How long does the treatment take and does it hurt a lot?
For a lip treatment, you should plan for 2.5 hours, and for the touch-up 1.5 hours.
Through a gentle and careful pigmentation technique, pain is reduced to a minimum.
I have hyaluronic acid in my lips - is that a problem?
No, not at all. Hyaluronic acid and lip pigmentation go hand in hand.
There must be 6 weeks between lip injections and permanent makeup so that swelling can heal and the pigmentation does not “dissolve” the new hyaluronic acid.
Can I go out in public immediately afterward?
The color is still very intense in the first few days—as if you were wearing lipstick. Swelling of the lips is to be expected, but usually subsides after 3-24 hours.
Is there a wide range of colors?
There is a very wide range of lip colors, from nude tones to bold berry tones suitable for all skin types. Bring your everyday lipstick or reference images of healed lip pigmentations so you can better demonstrate your ideas during the consultation at the beginning of the appointment.
Each person has a different undertone on their lips, which limits expectations of what is realistic. Lip pigmentation can only add more color, define the existing lip tissue, and lighten it.
If you are not sure which color to choose, I will recommend a color that best suits your skin type. If you wish, you can choose a more intense or darker color during the touch-up.
Does the pigmentation fade evenly?
Yes, the color will not heal unevenly. It may happen that the inner area of the lip, which comes into contact with a lot of moisture, fades more quickly. If you tend to have dry lips, this can also affect fading.
