Frequently asked questions
What is permanent make-up?
Permanent make-up (PMU) is a form of cosmetic tattooing in which color pigments are inserted into the uppermost layer of the skin. In contrast to conventional tattoos, the needles in PMU do not penetrate as deeply into the skin and the pigments are placed more finely and less compactly. This means that the result fades over time and needs to be refreshed regularly.
There are various techniques in the field of permanent make-up, the two best known being microshading and microblading.
Microshading is a method in which many small dots are tattooed into the skin using a fine needle. These dots can create a soft shade or a precise line. Microshading is suitable for all skin types and is often used for eyebrows, eyeliner, lips and freckles.
Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure that was specially developed for eyebrows. Pigmented color is scratched into the surface of the skin with a very fine blade to imitate individual hairs. The result is particularly natural and detailed eyebrows. However, microblading is mainly suitable for dry skin and is not recommended if there are only a few natural eyebrow hairs.
Note: We do not offer microblading as our expertise is focused on techniques such as microshading that are suitable for all skin types and deliver even, long-lasting results.
How long does permanent make-up last?
The durability of permanent make-up cannot be determined across the board, as it is influenced by various factors:
- Pigments: The type of pigment used plays a decisive role. Some pigments last for several years, while others fade after 1-2 years. The intensity with which the pigment is applied to the skin is also decisive.
- Depth and skin texture: How deep the pigment was applied and how thick or thin your skin is in the treated area also influences the durability. The result can fade more quickly on thick, oily skin or with very superficial pigmentation.
- Lifestyle: Your lifestyle has a major influence on durability. A strong immune system and a fast metabolism can cause the pigments to break down more quickly. Factors such as regular exercise, intensive skin care and frequent sun exposure can accelerate the degradation process.
However, if you want a general estimate: permanent make-up usually lasts for around 1 to 5 years. However, it can never be 100% guaranteed that it will fade completely.
Will the colors change during pigmentation?
There is no general answer to the question of possible color changes. We use high-quality pigments that are expected to show only minimal changes. Nevertheless, depending on the composition of the pigment, individual skin reactions and external influences (such as UV radiation), slight color changes may occur.
The pigment industry has been working for years to minimize colour changes. However, there are differences: pigments with iron oxide tend to turn reddish or pinkish after some time. Carbon-based pigments can appear grayer over time, and those with titanium dioxide can leave a white residue after curing.
As almost all pigments contain at least one of these substances, the extent of the color changes depends on the concentration of the ingredients and the technique used. If the pigment is applied too densely and saturated into the skin, color changes are often more visible. We make sure that the pigmentation is as light and even as possible in order to minimize unwanted colour changes.
Does the treatment hurt?
Each person's perception of pain is different, which is why perception during treatment also varies. More information on pain relief can be discussed during the consultation.
-
Eyebrows: Most people find eyebrow treatment to be quite painless. However, it can be more uncomfortable in areas near the nose. Some report watery eyes or sneezing. Many describe the sensation as "tickling", "vibration" or similar to plucking eyebrow hairs.
-
Lips: Many clients expect the lips to be particularly painful, but in practice it is often less bad than feared. As with the eyebrows, it can also be a little more uncomfortable in areas close to the nose.
-
Eyeliner: The thought of having a needle near the eyes often causes the greatest concern. In fact, it is mainly the fear of the proximity to the eye that intensifies the unpleasant feeling. Here too, the eye often waters, and only the inner corner of the eye can be perceived as particularly sensitive. The sensation can best be compared to a slight scratching between the eyelashes.
-
Freckles: These are done in a "hand-poked" style, which can tend to be a little more painful than machine-poked tattoos. The area around the nose and eyes in particular is more sensitive.
Overall, most find the treatments to be well tolerated and we ensure that comfort is paramount throughout the process.
Am I an ideal candidate for semi-permanent make-up?
Semi-permanent make-up is a safe and proven procedure that works well for most people. However, there are certain conditions under which treatment is not recommended:
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women: Due to possible health risks for mother and child, these groups should refrain from treatment.
- Taking blood-thinning medication: These medications can impair healing and increase the risk of bleeding.
- Taking antibiotics and cortisone: Some antibiotics can affect skin sensitivity and should be discontinued before treatment.
- Less than 6 weeks since the last hyaluronic acid treatment: Sufficient healing time is necessary to avoid skin reactions.
- HIV, hepatitis or other infectious viral diseases: These conditions require special precautions.
- Minors: We only perform pigmentation from the age of 18. Parental consent does not change this.
If you have other medical conditions or are unsure whether semi-permanent make-up is suitable for you, please contact us. We will be happy to answer any health-related questions you may have.

What are the risks and side effects of pigmentation?
Note on possible side effects and complications
Despite the utmost care, strict hygiene standards, proven techniques and high-quality materials, side effects and complications can occur during or after PMU treatment. These include
- Circulatory problems
- Chills
- Bruising
- Slight post-bleeding of the tattoo
- Swelling of the skin
- Redness
- Slight scarring
- Unwanted color changes and gradients due to individual connective tissue
There is also the possibility of allergic or inflammatory reactions and the risk of infection. The results of permanent make-up can last for several years, depending on the skin condition and pigmentation. We cannot guarantee the exact skin depth of the pigmentation, the duration or the final fading of the color.
In the first few days after treatment, the color result may appear darker due to the scab. The actual color is only visible after complete healing. Reworking may be necessary due to individual differences in metabolism.
Exposure to sunlight, the use of non-recommended remedies, self-tanning products or hair dyes can affect the color result and lead to fading, darkening or color changes.
What do I have to consider before the treatment?
There are a few important points to consider before your PMU treatment in order to achieve the best results:
- Health condition: Check with your doctor if you have any existing health problems, allergies or medication that you are taking to see if pigmentation is possible.
- Skin care: Avoid peelings, strong skin care products or direct sunlight in the week before the treatment. Your skin should be in optimum condition.
- Make-up: Avoid make-up in the area of the planned treatment on the day of the treatment.
- Alcohol, caffeine, painkillers: Avoid the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, drugs and painkillers 24 hours before the treatment, as they can increase sensitivity to pain, affect blood clotting and thus also healing.
- Scheduling: Make sure you don't schedule your appointment right after another cosmetic treatment, before your summer vacation or during a cold or flu.
These preparations will help ensure that your PMU treatment goes smoothly and that you achieve the best results. You can find more detailed information on prevention here.
How can I book an appointment?
Please read our guidelines before requesting an appointment. If you have an old foreign pigmentation (PMU from another artist) or herpes, please contact us in advance. If the foreign pigmentation is still visible, please send us a high-resolution picture of it.
You can make appointment requests conveniently online, by email, phone or WhatsApp. You can find the link to book an appointment here: Book an appointment.
Why is a deposit required and why is it non-refundable?
We value our time and want to ensure that our appointments are taken seriously. Therefore, we require a deposit to minimize the risk of no-shows.
The deposit also serves to deter customers who might not take the appointment seriously enough. Once we have received the deposit, it is subject to tax regulations and a refund would involve considerable bureaucracy. If everyone could cancel their appointment at short notice, this would mean a considerable administrative burden for us.
With the deposit, we ensure that you think about your appointment carefully and actually keep it. If you cancel in good time, the deposit will be credited to future appointments so that you can use it for a later visit.
How does treatment work?
We conduct a detailed consultation before every treatment. We then take before pictures for the file, which will only be published with your consent. We discuss the shape and color together before we start tattooing. Only when you are 100% satisfied will the final design be implemented. After the treatment, we will take after pictures and give you detailed aftercare instructions and, if necessary, a cream.
A treatment usually takes between 1.5 and 3 hours, including the consultation. More information can be found in the confirmation email after successfully booking an appointment.
Do I need to pay attention to anything after the treatment?
Yes, absolutely! Please read the aftercare instructions carefully to ensure an optimal healing result.
After the treatment, you will receive all the necessary care products from us as a gift. The right care at home is crucial for a perfect result!
Is there anything I need to be aware of if I have herpes?
If you suffer from cold sores, it is still possible to have your lips pigmented. However, there are a few important points to bear in mind:
If you suffer from cold sores - even if it has been a long time - it is advisable to take antiviral medication. These help to prevent an outbreak or reduce the severity of a possible outbreak.

Am I eligible for lip pigmentation with injectable lips?
Yes, it is possible! The use of hyaluronic acid in no way impairs the lip pigmentation process or the result. On the contrary, it works perfectly together, as the hyaluron fades the lip color and the lip contour appears less defined. A lipblush can then define a new contour and restore color to the lips.
However, it is important to note that the appointments should be at least 6 weeks apart. If lip pigmentation is performed directly after the hyaluronic acid treatment, there is a risk that the hyaluronic acid will be dissolved.
We recommend performing lip pigmentation first in order to perfect the natural shape of the lips, followed by a hyaluronic acid treatment. A different sequence is of course also possible and not harmful.
I have an old PMU and would like to have it covered. Is there anything I need to consider?
If your permanent make-up (PMU) is 1 to 5 years old and has almost completely faded, we can usually perform a "cover-up" without any problems. Please send us sharp and well exposed pictures of the area to be treated so that we can plan the best course of action.
However, if your PMU is older than 2 years and still clearly visible, it must be removed before a cover-up. This requires lasers or remover solutions, which we unfortunately do not offer.
If you are unsure whether your PMU needs to be removed or whether a cover-up is possible, please contact us for an individual consultation.
Please contact us directly if you have any further questions.
