Aftercare for freckle pigmentation
The right aftercare is crucial to achieve the best possible result from your freckle tattoo.
If you have any questions or concerns during the healing process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Important information on healing:
- Immediately after the treatment: The skin is reddened and slight swelling may occur. The color may be almost invisible and darken over the next few hours.
- Day 1-4: The color appears darker, swelling and redness have disappeared.
- Day 4-7: Itching may occur and small pigmented flakes of skin may come off. This is normal and occurs in irregular patches.
- After the skin flakes have fallen off: The pigment may temporarily appear lighter. The final color develops over the course of the 4-week healing period.
- After 2 weeks: The outer layers of skin have healed and the true color becomes visible.
- After 4 weeks: The inner skin layers are now also completely healed.
Slight irregularities in the color distribution are normal and can be adjusted in a second session (from week 6).
Normal symptoms in the first 4 days:
- Slight swelling, redness and sensitivity
- Dry, flaky skin
- Itching
- In the event of an allergic reaction to cream/soap or a pollen allergy, the area under the eyes may swell up after a few days; in the event of severe swelling, please consult a doctor.
What you should do:
- Cleansing: Cleanse your face twice a day with water and/or a mild cleanser.
- Cream: Apply a thin layer of the healing ointment from your kit 1-3 times a day using a cotton bud or clean hands. Use a new swab each time to avoid contamination. Less is more - let the skin breathe.
We recommend these products for good healing:
- Tattoo Med After Tattoo Cream (face and body care)
- La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+(facial care)
- CeraVe cleansing lotion (mild cleansing for dry skin)
- TattooMed Cleansing Gel (mild cleansing, for oily skin)
- La Roche-Posay Anthelios Shaka Fluid SPF 50 (sun protection)
What you should avoid:
- Avoid touching, rubbing or scratching the treated areas to prevent uneven healing and infection.
- Avoid make-up on the treated areas for about 1 week to prevent infection.
- Avoid thick layers of cream - too much cream causes the skin to swell.
- Do not allow the treated areas to swell from too much water for 1 week. However, a short shower is perfectly okay.
- Avoid cosmetic treatments for 5 days.
- No hair removal (waxing, electrolysis, laser) in the freckle area for 2 weeks.
- Do not expose the treated areas to direct sunlight, tanning products, saunas, salt water, chlorine pools or direct showers for 2 weeks. After day 3 you can use non-oily sunscreen (see product recommendations).
- Avoid using acids, vitamins A and C or other active cosmetics on or near the treated areas for 2 weeks.
Long-term care instructions:
- Use a sunscreen (SPF 30 or 50) every day to slow down the fading of pigmentation caused by UV radiation.
- Inform your doctor or practitioner about your semi-permanent tattoo if you are planning a chemical peel treatment, laser treatment or an MRI. The pigments used contain iron oxides, titanium dioxide and carbon, are EU-certified and contain no heavy metals.
- Inform the blood donor service, as you may not be allowed to donate blood for 6 months after treatment.
- Annual refresher treatments are recommended every 12 months to maintain the freshness of the pigmentation. Refreshing may be necessary earlier for oily skin, as the natural sebum causes the pigment to fade more quickly.
Freckles that are too dark:
In the first few days after treatment, individual freckles may appear darker than desired, especially if the skin is very dry or thin. In this case, there are several options to adjust the pigmentation:
-
- During the scab phase: If the freckles appear too dark, you can apply a thick layer of Bepanthen wound and healing ointment several times a day. This will help to soften the scabs and make them fall off sooner.
- After the scabbing phase: If the freckles are still too dark after the scabbing phase, you can use active cosmetics (AHA, BHA acid, vitamin A or C) to gently lighten the pigmentation. This may take a few weeks.
- In an extreme emergency: If significant lightening is required, a pigment remover can be used. In this case, please contact us via WhatsApp or email so that we can discuss the best course of action.
Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or uncertainties!
Infection prevention: Proper care of your freckles is crucial to avoid infection during the healing process. Follow the instructions above carefully to protect your new freckles.
The treatment is sterile, all materials are disposable and the treatment room is thoroughly cleaned after each session. Should an infection occur, this is usually due to inadequate aftercare. If you notice yellow discharge in the treated area, please contact your doctor immediately to initiate antibiotic treatment.
