Aftercare for medical pigmentation
Proper aftercare is crucial to achieve the best possible result from your medical pigmentation. Usually two sessions are required to achieve an optimal result. If you have any questions or concerns during the healing process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Important information on healing:
Immediately after treatment: The plaster (Second Skin) should be worn for 12-48 hours. It is normal for colored wound fluid to collect in the plaster.
Day 1-4: The color appears more intense and darker.
Day 4-7: Itching may occur and small flakes of skin may come off. This is normal and occurs irregularly.
After the skin flakes have fallen off: The pigment may temporarily appear lighter. The final color develops over the course of the 4-week healing period.
After 2 weeks: The outer layers of skin have healed and the true color becomes visible.
After 4 weeks: The inner skin layers are also completely healed. Slight irregularities in the color distribution are normal and can be adjusted in the second session (from week 6).
Normal symptoms in the first 4 days:
- Slight swelling, redness and sensitivity
- Dry, flaky skin
- Itching
What you should do:
-
Cleaning: Carefully remove the patch under running water. Then clean the area with lukewarm water and pH-neutral soap. Use clean hands! Carefully dab the wound dry with a clean towel or Zewa and immediately apply a thin layer of the recommended wound cream.
-
Care: Apply cream to the wound 2-3 times a day for the next two weeks. Avoid contact with a lot of water and sweat, e.g. through sauna or sport. Avoid direct sunlight for two weeks. Do not scratch or rub the fresh wound to prevent scarring.
Recommended products for good healing:
- Tattoo Med After Tattoo Cream (face and body care)
- CeraVe cleansing lotion (mild cleansing for dry skin)
- TattooMed Cleansing Gel (mild cleansing, for oily skin)
- La Roche-Posay Anthelios Shaka Fluid SPF 50 (sun protection)
What you should avoid:
-
Touch: Avoid scratching, rubbing or touching the treated areas to prevent uneven healing and infection.
-
Cream layer: Avoid thick layers of cream - too much cream causes the skin to swell.
-
Water: Do not immerse the treated areas in water for 1 week. However, a short shower is okay.
-
Hair removal: No hair removal (waxing, electrolysis, laser) in the area of medical pigmentation for 2 weeks.
-
Sun exposure: Do not expose the treated areas to direct sunlight, tanning products, saunas, salt water, chlorine pools or direct shower jets for 2 weeks.
-
Active cosmetics: Avoid using acids, vitamins A and C or other active cosmetics on or near the treated areas for 2 weeks.
Long-term care instructions:
-
Sun protection: Use a sunscreen (SPF 30 or 50) daily to slow down the fading of pigmentation caused by sun exposure.
-
Medical treatments: Inform your doctor or practitioner about your semi-permanent tattoo if you are planning a chemical peel treatment, laser treatment or an MRI. The pigments used contain iron oxides, titanium dioxide and carbon, are EU-certified and contain no heavy metals.
-
Donate blood: Inform the blood donor service, as you may not be allowed to donate blood for 6 months after treatment.
-
Refresher treatments: Refresher treatments are recommended every 2-3 years to maintain the freshness of the pigmentation. You are the best judge of when you need a refresher.
Infection prevention: Proper care of your medical pigmentation is crucial to avoid infection during the healing process. Follow the instructions above carefully to protect your new pigmentation.
The treatment is sterile, all materials are disposable and the treatment room is thoroughly cleaned after each session. Should an infection occur, this is usually due to inadequate aftercare. If you notice yellow discharge in the treated area, please contact your doctor immediately to initiate antibiotic treatment.
